Lincolnshire Group – September 2019 Report
In late August Sue & I took part in the Yorks. Gp.’s Heather & Honey run. We departed on the Wednesday & stayed at The carpenters Arms , Felixkirk just outside Thirsk. The following morning an eclectic mix of 51 vintage cars took off for a 32 mile scenic drive arranged by Malcolm Parker. Upon returning to the Carpenters Arms we had a very substantial buffet to help us on our way home. I thoroughly recommend this event to you all. We arrived home at 5 pm Thursday having covered 250 trouble free miles in the Austin. All the profits raised were given to the Yorks. Air Ambulance. The date for next year is August 20th 2020
September saw us back at The George Hotel for our monthly meetings. Sue & I missed it as we were on holiday in Russia. However, Paul Coupland chaired the meeting and has kindly written the report below:-
September Talk by Richard Pullen entitled “Women’s Role in WW1 Tank Manufacture”
26 people attended Richard’s Talk on the above, as expected from the Chairman of Friends of Lincoln Tanks his knowledge of all the factories in Lincoln “producer of the first tank” is extensive. Richard went on to produce on screen pictures of impressive detail of the skilled work the ladies produced as they took over the work of the men. The struggle to get the vote, equal pay. The camaraderie of the ladies working together is wonderful. I have nothing but praise for them. The evening ended with a very warm round of applause for Richard.
