Lincolnshire Group May 2018 Report
Sevens to the Sea
The sun shone in the early morning and for most of the day. Your committee arrived at the start for 08.00 and for once nearly all the entrants arrived early. After signing on they availed themselves of bacon butties and a hot drink in the Hartsholme Park café. I took calls from three non-runners. Either poor health, poorly car or both. The Deputy Mayor of Lincoln arrived at 08.30 and was chaperoned by Paddy Malone who proceeded to introduce him to the fifty odd cars and their owners. After the drivers briefing the Deputy Mayor of Lincoln manfully flagged everyone off.
This year after 42 miles there was new coffee stop at The Three Horseshoes pub in Goulceby. All the cars parked in the attached paddock which was used for camping and glamping. We even had a chance to examine the Pods & Yurts that were on site and available to rent. Then it was off for another 36 miles to our usual lunch stop at Walesby Village hall. As last year the villagers gave us a superb welcome laying on tea, coffee and an especially made Austin Seven cake!
The final part of the route covered some 27 miles and upon arriving at Cleethorpes Dave Lucas and members of the Humber group were there to assist with the parking on The Esplanade. Once parked they were presented with their commemorative certificates by none other than our PWA7C Magazine Editor, James Cornish, who was ably assisted by his wife Sue. To the best of my knowledge we only had one breakdown and that was a very rare 1930’s Morris Jensen. As the saying goes “You can rely on an Austin”.
The evening meal for the fifty nine who stayed over was held at Papas Fish Restaurant on The Pier. I always panic a little when arranging a new dining venue, however everyone agreed the quality and portions of the food were so good that I have already booked for next year [Sunday April 7th 2019]. Furthermore the waiting staff were so attentive and pleasant even putting up with the crack and banter coming from table One!
There was good support from all over the UK which included a strong Yorkshire contingent. Even though Ian Hoole, a Sevens to the Sea virgin, announced that they had bigger mole hills in Yorks. than our Lincs. Wolds, I know he has already booked his Cleethorpes hotel for next year so we must be doing something right. Well done to all those who have e-mailed me with their appreciation of all our efforts. Your support is much appreciated. See you all next year.

ADVANCE NOTICE TO ALL PWA7C MEMBERS
The Lincolnshire Group was founded in January 1969 and we shall be arranging a memorable day to celebrate this milestone on Saturday 15th June 2019. There will be a run hopefully taking in Lincoln Cathedral environs and finishing at Brayford Pool with a jazz band, a celebratory plaque for each driver and scones for all to go with your picnic.
