Lincolnshire Group – January 2018 Report
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy and Great Austineering New Year.
The 2018 AGM took place on January 10th with 34 members in attendance. Ande Malone & Gerry Cock stood down from the committee and were thanked for all their efforts as well as given gifts as a token of our appreciation for all their efforts over the years. Stuart Kent & Howard Pell were elected to take their places. No suggestions for forthcoming events were raised from the floor but members were encouraged to let us know of any events they would like included in the coming months. We were grateful to Pete Jury, after the AGM business was concluded, for giving us an informative update on his latest developments which were enthusiastically received.
My report is given below:-
Pre-war Austin Seven Lincs. Group 2018 AGM Report
Our group continues to go from strength to strength. Sevens to the Sea is always well attended and looked upon as the start of our season. Special mention must be made to Dave Lucas for all his continued efforts at the Cleethorpes end & our route planners, Paddy and Ande Malone. Tony Johnson’s I.O.M trip was a great success. The March Shoebox Night is always packed out & the Track Day at Blyton Park was a knockout. Stuart Ulph’s Media night continually draws them in and the second October End of Season Run proved to be very enjoyable. Quiz night is always a hoot as far as I, as the Quizmaster, am concerned.
We have sold the old trailer and have purchased a far superior one which is large enough to take an Austin Seven or a Ten. The club car has been used for numerous events and we now have three principal sponsors, namely Witham Oil, Longstone Tyres & Classic Dynamo Repair Services. We are indebted to Graham Beckett for the ability to store both the club car and trailer at his unit. Plans are well ahead for a trip to Holland in late June 2018 & I am still taking entries. After a super talk on Syston Park we have now added it into our 2018 calendar of events.
Our audited finances are in excellent shape thanks to the efforts of our treasurer Tony Johnson. We are already planning to spend considerable sums on the 2019 celebrations,. The advance date for your diaries is Saturday June 15th 2019 with a run finishing at Brayford Pool, Lincoln.
The website continues to be popular with thousands of “hits “ both nationally and internationally. Members cars that have been advertised here have sold incredibly quickly. I am indebted to our webmistress, Brenda Johnson, for all her efforts in web maintenance.
The committee do a great job on your behalf supporting me in my role as Secretary and I take this opportunity to publically thank them.
Our Treasurer Tony Johnson who does a sterling job or your behalf had produced financial spreadsheets for members perusal. However he was unable to attend having cracked a vertebra in his neck. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Consequently I gave a resume of the club’s finances which were declared to be very healthy. They are, of course, independently audited each year.
2017 Christmas Dinner
Twenty two members attended with this years theme being “ Festive Scarves “. A great evening and the collage below says it all!
Dave Wilcox Memorial Trial – Dec. 28th
Excellent turn out on a snowy and very cold day. Bruce Robinson & Dave Pawley had entered the Lincs. Club Car complete with its new sponsorship logos. It was great to have the support of so many Lincs. Gp. members either spectating or marshalling.
Below is picture of Ronan my 16 year old grandson trying it out for size, with Andy Storer in the background.
Holland – Dutch ATDC Rally
The rally is confirmed as being in Stompetoren and I have 10 rooms booked at the Van der Valk Hotel, Akersloot bij Alkmaar. Jody Kaldenberg the Chairman of the Dutch Austin Ten Drivers Club has obtained a special rate of 129.50 euros per night for two people in a double en suite room with breakfast. The plan is to sail overnight Thursday 28th June from Hull, arriving Rotterdam on the Friday morning. The non-motorway journey to Alkmaar is a distance of 92 miles. The ATDC rally is over the weekend but we are booking seven nights in the hotel in order to explore the town of Alkmaar and the surrounding area, sailing home overnight on Friday night 6th July. As well as the modest rally fee the other cost will be the ferry. No group discount available so you will need to book your own crossings, best done a.s.a.p. To date I have 7 couples definitely signed up. If you would like to take part please e mail a.s.a.p. I should also be able to obtain more than ten rooms if required. Please google Alkmaar as there is lots on the web.
