Lincolnshire Group – August 2017 Report
I start my report my offering our congratulations to Brenda and Tony Johnson upon their Silver Wedding anniversary. Ruby and Gold to follow! The picture is of them cutting a celebratory cake at our August committee meeting. Later they generously provided glasses of champagne for the toast.
Wed. 13th Sept. – First meeting of the year 7.30pm at The George Hotel, Leadenham.
Speakers Richard and Mark on Syerston Park Speed Trials:-
“ I would be more than happy to do this for your group, I combine with a colleague Mark
who is the Motorcycle man and I cover the history of the site and the cars.
I have a lovely section that may be of particular interest to your group about Gordon Brettell in his little Austin Seven “Tiddler”. The talk is usually around an Hour plus together with questions and answers.”
Blyton Track Day
See separate report & pictures in this magazine. We all had a truly memorable day.
This is an impassioned plea from yours truly to please respond to events! We do need final numbers for events sooner rather than later e.g. the Alford visit & October end of season run. I hope to see you all at The George, Leadenham on Wed. evening 13th September at 7.30 pm.
Very poor turn out his year. Four Chummies, one Tourer & a box saloon. Eight Lincolnshire members were present but a goodly number were missing.
Jody Kaldenberg of the Dutch Austin Ten Drivers Club has kindly offered a place to any member of the PWA7C at their annual Dutch Austin Drivers rally. Tony & Brenda Johnson have attended for many, many years, Sue & I have been twice. It is held over a weekend but we normally make a week of it sailing Hull Zeebrugge with a plan of having 2 night in Brugge on the way home. The Dutch hospitality is superb & they always recommend somewhere nearby to stay. The venue is still to be decided but the weekend starts Friday 29th June. We shall therefore sail overnight Thursday 28th June, returning on the overnight ferry Friday 6th July, back in to Hull on the Saturday morning.
At this early stage I just need to know who is expressing an interest & depending on numbers I will be able to obtain group discount on both the ferry and or the accommodation. Kindly e mail me your response sooner rather than later.
Whisby Nature Reserve
Six Austins turned out to support, including Stewart Kent’s inaugural run in his restored 1927 Chummy.
Fifty members in attendance for our annual event with all Austins parked very prettily courtesy of my neighbours paddock. Alan Cady, Paul Bradley & I doing the cooking with the committee ladies arranging all the tables, which were laden with glorious salads and sumptuous desserts. The weather was very kind to us and the raffle, which seems to take longer every year, once more provided huge hilarity. The prizes were many & varied ranging from a lovely soft toy donated by Mary Graylen, 5 litres of Witham oil, down to the annual returnable tin of tuna! My lovely wife Sue won one of the 5litres of oil & I am currently trying to barter it from her for a box of Milk Tray. Over the years we have built up many resources to help us with this event e.g. gazeebos, tables, crockery, cutlery, bbq’s, tea urn etc. etc. so we have made the decision that for the future the BBQ will always be hosted in South Scarle thus saving on major transport logistics. From Sue’s point of view it also means she gets me to make an extra effort to get our garden looking nice! A special thanks goes to all your committee members who assist in the preparation and packing away.
